Herndon Weather: Heat Wave to Hit This Week
An excessive heat watch has been issued for the 20710-area on Friday.
Late June will feel like late August this weekend as temperatures reach the upper 90s Thursday through Monday.
The high temperature will be 96 with sun on Thursday. Temperatures will climb to 100 Friday, 98 Saturday and 97 Sunday. Temperatures will drop back to 94 Monday and 95 Tuesday, according to Weather.com's extended forecast.
Friday’s skies will be partly cloudy, and there is a slight chance of thunderstorms Friday afternoon, evening and overnight. Saturday and Sunday will be sunny and mostly clear.

The humidity will hover around 50 percent during the day, rising slightly overnight from Thursday through Monday.
The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat watch for Friday, lasting from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The heat index will be about 110 degrees. There will be a highest risk of heat exhaustion and other heat-related illness for those spending an extended period of time outdoors or for those without air conditioning.

Keeping Cool: Pools and Cooling Centers
Need to take a dip to keep cool? Herndon has a number of pools available in its neighborhoods, including at: the Herndon Community Center, the Herndon Swim Club, the Hunters Creek Pool, the Pinecrest Swim and Tennis Club, the Kingston Chase pool, the Hiddenbrook Swim and Tennis Club, the Bradley Farm pool, the Kingstream Community pool, and McNair Farms pool. The Water Mine Family Swimmin' Hole is located in nearby Reston.
For assistance keeping utilities such as air conditioning turned on, local residents can contact Reston Interfaith or Herndon-Reston FISH for help. Fairfax County also has a cooling assistance program, which can be found here, and the state of Virginia has a cooling program as well.
