Herndon's H.K. Lee Hosts Tae Kwon Do Championship

Hundreds of martial arts students filled the gym at South Lakes High School on Saturday for the 2011 Tae Kwon Do Championship - National Capital Open.

The event was organized by Grandmaster H.K. Lee, a 9th Degree Black Belt and former undefeated Asian Welterweight Champion.

“This event is considered to be one of the largest Tae Kwon Do tournaments on the East Coast,” said Lee, owner of the H. K. Lee Academy of Tae Kwon Do in Herndon.

“Students learning the art of Tae Kwon Do are taught to discover that good citizenship, sportsmanship, and self improvement are more important than winning trophies and medals," he said.

"The sport teaches students to respect each other and exhibit character traits that make good role models in local communities," he said. "This has been the focus of the National Capital Open since its inception, and also why so many Masters and Grandmasters continue to return with their students year after year.”
