Herndon Inferno Takes U12 Championship in FPYC Liberty Cup

Over the weekend of March 24-25 the Fairfax Police Youth Club hosted the 2012 Liberty Cup Invitational in Fairfax, VA. Among its participants was Herndon Youth Soccer's U12 Boys' Herndon Inferno, coached by Chris Gatz and Brian McNair.

Despite tough competition and the rainy weather, the Inferno boys pulled to the top of the rankings with wins over SYA 99 White and the Chantilly NOVA Wanderers 99 on Saturday.

On the final day of the tournament, it seemed like the FPYC Pirates would have the better of the Inferno with an early morning win. However, the afternoon belonged to the Inferno with a decisive 3-0 victory over the Pirates to claim the championship for Herndon.

The team was formed in 2008, with many of the boys having played together since the age of 8. The fourteen boys that make up Herndon Inferno today are from the Herndon, Reston, Sterling, Ashburn and Leesburg areas. This is their first 2012 tournament win.
