Herndon Defeats South Lakes in Basketball 73-53

Hornets hand Seahawks fourth loss of the season.

The Herndon High School Hornets defeated the South Lakes Seahawks 73-53 in a sold out Herndon gymnasium Friday, Dec. 20.

The Seahawks had previously rebounded from a slow start, where they lost their first three games, to win two straight before Friday's game.

Their mini win streak included a win over Marshall High School and a 100-41 shellacking of Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology.

But the Hornets proved to be too much for the Seahawks. The teams stayed close throughout much of the first quartet, but Herndon began to pull away in the third quarter.

Herndon's Dorian Johnson led the late charge, scoring 14 points in the final quarter.

He told the Washington Post after the game that it felt like an "eternity" sitting on the bench during the third quarter with three fouls, so he was glad to make the most of his time when he returned.

Herndon moved to 6-2 on the season.

South Lakes junior Brandon Kamga, one of the top players in the region, scored 20 for the Seahawks, but scored only four points in the fourth quarter.

South Lakes will play their next game Thursday, Dec. 26 against Centreville High School as part of the Wakefield Holiday Tournament.

The Seahawks Girls' team had a great showing before the boys game, defeating Herndon convincingly 71-27.
