Town Council Honors Pride of Herndon Marching Band

They also honored an employee from United Airlines who assisted the band on their trip.

During its Tuesday night meeting, the Herndon Town Council honored members of Herndon High School's Pride of Herndon marching band and their director Kathleen Jacoby for their exceptional performance in Hawaii for the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade.

The band presented a photo slideshow of their trip, and showed off their commemorative trip t-shirts, which listed the Town of Herndon as a beloved sponsor, since the Town Council voted back in October to off-set every band member's cost of the trip by $50.

Two students, Christian Sheppard and Lizzie Pater, spoke on behalf of the band, sharing stories of their favorite memories of the trip, and how it felt to hear their band's name called as the Grand Champions of the parade.

Each councilmember and Mayor Lisa Merkel spoke in turn, telling the band how proud of them they were, and remarking on how well they represented the Town of Herndon to the whole country.

In addition, the Mayor and Town Council honored employee JT Sidhu from United Airlines for his tireless help to the band, and in particular for securing the band a $5,000 discount on shipping their instruments and equipment to Hawaii.
