NOVEC Accepting Scholarship Applications

Applications are due by March 18.

Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative is currently accepting applications from Northern Virginia high school seniors for higher education scholarships.

NOVEC’s scholarship program is awarding $1,500 scholarships to qualified graduating high school students within NOVEC’s service territory, including in Fairfax Fauquier, Loudoun, Prince William and Stafford Counties. An additional $1,500 scholarship will be awarded to a student who attends private school or is home schooled.

From the scholarship winners, the scholarship selection committee will choose the overall outstanding student for the $1,500 J. Manley Garber Scholarship, for a total of $3,000 in scholarships.

The committee members will choose students who have demonstrated scholastic achievement, community service, work experience and leadership skills.

Applicant requirements include:

• Student must be a college-bound high school senior with parents or guardians who receive electric service from NOVEC;

• must have a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale and submit an official transcript including first semester grades;

• submit SAT scores;

• demonstrate a wide range of participation and leadership in extracurricular activites, community service and/or work experience;

• submit two letters of recommendation — one from a high school official (teacher, counselor) and one from a community member;

• and submit a 400-word typed essay (directions are included with the application form).
