Kohl's Cares Scholarship Nominations Open Feb. 1

The program recognizes youth making a positive impact on their community.

Area Kohl's Department Stores, including the Herndon location on Elden Street, will start accepting nominations for outstanding young volunteers starting next week for the 2013 Kohl's Cares Scholarship Program. 

Youth age 6 to 18 can be nominated for the awards and those nominating them must be 21 or older. Nominations will be accepted from Feb. 1 to March 15 at KohlsKids.com. Those wishing to nominate a local youth can sign up for email notification when the nomination form is available. 

More than 2,300 youth across the country will be honored by Kohl's, and more than $425,000 in scholarships and prizes will be awarded to youth who have positively impacted their communities.

Two nominees from each of Kohl's 1,100 nationwide store locations will win a $50 Kohl's gift card; more than 200 store winners will win regional scholarships worth $1,000 toward post-secondary education; and ten winners across the country will be awarded a total of $10,000 in scholarships for post-secondary education.

Kohl's will also donate $1,000 to a nonprofit organization on each national winner's behalf.

The Kohl's Cares Scholarship Program is part of Kohl's philanthropic program, Kohl's Cares. The program focuses on improving the lives of children and teens. More than 17,000 children and youth have received more than $3.4 million in scholarships and prizes since the program began.
