Herndon High School Marching Band to Perform in Hawaii

"Pride of Herndon" will represent Virginia in the 2013 Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade.

In December, the "Pride of Herndon" marching band won't only be the pride of town — it'll be the pride of Virginia, too.

Herndon High School's marching band was selected by U.S. Congress and the Marine Corps Marching Band to perform in the 2013 Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade, which is scheduled for December in Hawaii.

The group, which is Virginia's official "ambassador" to the parade, is one of the few high school bands across the country to earn the honor, according to an announcement posted on Patch

This year, it earned a score of "1" from every judge at the 2012 Virginia Band and Orchestra Association's Marching Band Assessment — one of only five groups from the state's Northeast division to do so.

A great oppportunity! But I assume those who attend will need to pay their own way or raise funds for the trip? It is possible that some will not be able to make the trip. I hope our community will offer support so the Herndon Band can be at its best in Hawaii!
