Students at Herndon Elementary School participated in the 2nd annual Chalk 4 Peace celebration on Wednesday, Sept. 21. The day-long event was coordinated with the Global Chalk 4 Peace organization, which celebrates creativity in children by having them express their ideas of peace.
Children filed out of the school, drawings in hand, ready to transfer their images of peace onto the sidewalks surrounding the school. When they were finished the sidewalks were covered in colorful art and their hands were covered in colorful dust.
Children from around the world create chalk art about peace through Chalk 4 Peace, leaving a colorful swath across the world. The school said the even is meant to promote peace as a positive idea, but does not promote political or religious ideas.
