Floris Elementary Dance-A-Thon Supports Wounded Warrior Project

Students at Floris Elementary School participated in a Dance-A-Thon on Tuesday to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.

students participated in the school's third annual Dance-A-Thon on Tuesday, sponsored by the Student Council Association and this year benefitting the Wounded Warrior Project.

Throughout the day, students filed in groups through the cafeteria to learn about Wounded Warrior Project and spend some time dancing. Floris Elementary School parent Dave Birmingham, who retired from the U.S. Navy, showed the students a short video of injured veterans learning to overcome their disabilities.

"What you saw is a group of people who are truly amazing," Birmingham said. He said the people Wounded Warrior helps had the bravery and self sacrifice to join the military knowing there were risks in going to war overseas. He said some who have served overseas have been seriously injured, changing their lives drastically.

The Wounded Warrior Project helps injured members of the military work to get their lives back in order during and after their recovery, Birmingham said. The organization helps them to see there's a light at the end of the tunnel and helps them transition into being productive members of society, he said, including finding jobs that suit their needs.

After the short presentation, students got on their feet, dancing to honor and celebrate those Wounded Warrior serves. Floris Elementary School students worked to raise money throughout the school week. The Dance-A-Thon and fundraiser are the last service project of the school year for Floris.
