Five Things To Know This Week

The Town Council will be discussing Herndon's plans for Metro at its Tuesday work session.

1. The Herndon Town Council will have its first opportunity to study and comment on the town's plans for Metro at its work session Tuesday night (Oct. 18). . The public will be able to comment on the plan at the council's next public hearing, Tuesday, Oct. 25. The meetings begin at 7 p.m. at the Mary Ingram Council Chambers, 765 Lynn St. 

2. This week is Homecoming Week at Herndon High School. This year's homecoming theme is Herndon Goes Hollywood. The homecoming parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22 in downtown Herndon and will travel down Elden Street and turn onto Lynn Street before ending in downtown Herndon. The homecoming football game will be held after the parade at 1 p.m. at Herndon High School and the HHS homecoming dance will follow that night. The powder puff game will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. at HHS. 

3. A nonpartisan candidates forum will be held at Herndon High School on Oct. 27 from 7-9 p.m. in the school lecture hall. Invited participants Jane Strauss and Louise Epstein, who are running for Dranesville, Pat Hynes and Nancy Linton, who are running for Hunter Mill, and the seven at-large candidates. 4. The Elden Street Players will kick off its 2011-2012 season with A Midsummer Night's Dream. The comedy by William Shakespeare will open Friday, Oct. 21 and will run through Thursday, Nov. 10. Tickets are $20 per person for general admission. 

5. The Town of Herndon's annual Spooktacular at the Herndon Community Center will be held this Friday. Children can enjoy games, food, a pumpkin contest and trick-or-treating during a costume parade. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. and is for ages 3-8. Registration is $8 per child in advance and $11 per child the day of.
