First Robotics Team 116 Annual Kickoff

On Janurary 7th, 2012 Herndon High School’s Robotics Team will kickoff the 2011-2012 season. We invite you to attend this special event. Our team is proud to be affiliated with the FIRST Robotics Competition. The kickoff is the first time our team members will be exposed to the rules of the competitions in which we will compete during the spring.  This event is a great opportunity to meet our team in action.

The FIRST Robotics Competition exposes thousands of high school students to engineering and technology in an exhilarating real world environment.  By teaming up with experienced engineers from business, universities and government agencies such as NASA, students learn practical engineering and technical concepts.  The team brainstorms, designs, constructs and tests a life-sized operational robot that is designed to accomplish a variety of specific tasks that are changed each year.  All of the design and construction must be completed during an intensive six week period prior to the regional competition in Washington, D.C., and the international competition in Saint Louis, MO.  In addition, the team participates in outreach activities, such as demonstrating the robot for community groups and local elementary students.

Please consider attending our kickoff on January, 7th 2012 in the Herndon High School Lecture Hall from 9:30 - 11:45 AM. Your attendance is a great way to encourage the development of future engineers, scientists and technology experts. We hope to see you there!
