Herndon High Students Walk to Help the Homeless

More than 400 students and staff participated in the Help the Homeless mini walk for Reston Interfaith on Thursday, Oct. 20

On Thursday, more than 400 Herndon students and staff walked in one of Reston Interfaith's Help the Homeless mini and community walks.

Students and staff took time out from the week of Homecoming celebrations to help stop homelessness in the county. Director of student activities Jonathan Frohm said they walk because everyone deserves to have what they need. As students walked, facts about homelessness and housing in Fairfax County were broadcast out over the load speaker.

  • Approximately 1500 people are homeless on any given day
  • About 500 children and 250 families are homeless
  • The average rent in Northern Virginia is $1,500 per month

The tone of the event was of hope and optimism, and that what the participants were doing would make a difference in helping to eliminate homelessness.
