Coaches Corner: Herndon vs Yorktown

The Hornets will travel to Yorktown on Friday.

Each week, we'll check in with the Hornets to see how they're preparing for the game ahead.

This week:

After last week's game against the South Lakes Seahawks, the Hornets spent Saturday morning watching the highlights. The team ran and lifted weights, the coaches met on Sunday and practices continued on Monday.

Head Coach Brian Day said he tells his team that every game is the biggest game of the year.

"We'll keep fighting, we'll keep gridning and we'll keep getting better," he said.

Here's what Day had to say about this week's matchup.

"I played against Yorktown and I played against [Head Coach Bruce Hanson]. Coach Hanson's a great coach, there's no question about it. When you face a guy like that, he's seen it all. He's the Wizard of Oz, he knows what's behind the curtain."

Day said Herndon will have to go out and play good, solid, fundamental football.

"They've got it down and they know what they're going to do. It's going to be a tough battle for us but one that we're going to have to show up and play, because they're pretty good."

Herndon takes on Yorktown at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Yorktown High School, 5200 Yorktown Blvd., Arlington.
