What’s Open and What’s Closed in Herndon & Monday Storm Update

We'll update this list throughout the day on what's open and closed in Herndon and how storm recovery efforts are going.

Many of Herndon's businesses are still open and have power, including those along Elden Street, in the Kmart shopping center, and downtown Herndon. The shops at Worldgate are open, as are those in Woodland Crossing. 

The Herndon Community Center and Herndon Parks and Recreation programs and activities will be held as scheduled on Monday. The community center opens at 6 a.m. 

Crews from Herndon's Department of Public Works have been circulating through town cleaning debris from roadways. Normal cut-and-bundle rules for curbside debris collection are waived through July 13. Crews will continue to pick up debris for the next two weeks.

The Town of Herndon is advising residents to call 911 only in an emergency. The Herndon Police Department can be reached for non-emergencies at 703-435-6846. 

To report power outages and downed wires, call Dominion Virginia Power at 1-866-366-4357. For residents who are away from their homes and are waiting to see if they have power, Dominion can notify customers by phone when power is restored.

Call Dominion's outage line (1-866-366-4357) and report the outage and actual address of the outage. On the automated menu, choose to request a phone call when power is restored. Call backs can be made during waking hours only or at any time, day or night. 

Residents should stay away from downed wires, as they may still be live. Fairfax County is urging residents to use battery powered flashlights, rather than candles, which pose a fire risk. The county is also encouraging residents to check on vulnerable neighbors. 

Herndon area schools without power include Clearview and Dranesville elementary schools, Herndon Middle School and Herndon High School. 

Power has been restored at Supervisor John Foust's Dranesville district office and it will be fully staffed today. Call 703-356-0551 for questions or concerns. 

Fairfax County Government is open on Monday with unscheduled leave. The Fairfax County Circuit Court, General District Court andJuvenile and Domestic Relations District Court are closed. Emergency service personnel should report as scheduled. 

The Fairfax Connector bus service is open and running on its normal schedule. The Connector will allow riders to carry and drink water on the buses on Monday. 

More than 100 traffic signals throughout the area continue to be without power. Drivers should treat them as four-way stops. Visit the Virginia Department of Transportation's 511 site for the latest road closures and traffic alerts.  

Federal agencies in the Washington, D.C. area are open with the option for unscheduled leave or unscheduled telework.
