Town Manager: Herndon Police Not Soliciting via Telephone

Fundraising phone calls from the Herndon FOP causing confusion.

The Town of Herndon released a statement clarifying that the fundraising phone calls for the Herndon Fraternal Order of Police are not coming from the town today.

Town Manager Art Anselene said in a statement Friday afternoon that the fundraising calls are from a group that is separate from the town and the town's police department, though calls may make it seem as if they are from the town.

"The Herndon Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), a non-profit entity that is distinct and separate from the Herndon Police Department, is currently fundraising via telephone solicitation, conducted on its behalf by Community Service Group. Some of the calls allegedly suggest that the Town of Herndon or the Herndon Police Department is conducting this solicitation. Neither the Town of Herndon nor the Herndon Police Department is conducting nor has the power to conduct this solicitation. Funds raised through these efforts do not in any way benefit the Herndon Police Department or the Town of Herndon."

The release said if town residents or businesses receive the calls for solicitations that say they will benefit the town of Herndon or the Herndon Police or are otherwise misrepresented as coming from the town, they can report them to Fairfax County's Consumer Affairs Division at 703-222-8435.
