New Toll Road Rate Goes Into Effect Jan. 1

The main toll plaza on the Dulles Toll Road will increase by 25 cents beginning Sunday, Jan. 1

Beginning Sunday, Jan. 1 the toll road rate at the main toll plaza on the Dulles Toll Road will increase by 25 cents, to $1.50. Toll road rates at the on and off ramps will remain the same, 75 cents.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority board of directors approved a three-year schedule for the toll road rates in November 2009 thatincluded inreasing the toll road rate at the main plaza by 25 cents each January through 2012. The decision was made after a series of public hearings.

Any future toll road rate increases beyond 2012 will require public hearings and action by the MWAA board of directors. MWAA said in a press release that the increase is necessary for it to be able to fulfill its commitment to operate and maintain the Dulles Toll Road and to construct the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project.
