Sunday Derecho Storm Update - Herndon

Dominion, Verizon and AT&T are all still working to restore services. The Herndon Community Center is open regular hours today and is serving as a cooling center.

Many are still without power in the area, and though Dominion posted a list of locations they'll have crews working today, none are in Herndon.

Both Verizon and AT&T have had outages for phone customers in the region and are also working to restore service to their users.

Fairfax County's 911 system is working again, though the county is asking residents to call only in emergencies. Power outages and downed power lines should be reported to Dominion (1-866-DOM-HELP).

The county is also advising residents to stay away from downed wires that may still be live, check on vulnerable neighbors who may need assistance, drink plenty of water and fluids and use battery operated flashlights instead of candles, which pose a fire risk.

The Town of Herndon will be collecting storm debris from July 2 through July 13. The town will will waive curbside debris collection rules for the next two weeks and allow storm debris to be placed at the curb in reasonably sized lengths.
