Reston Interfaith to Take Over Management of Herndon's Neighborhood Resource Center

The Town of Herndon recently transferred responsibility of NRC operations to Fairfax County, which contracted with Reston Interfaith.

Beginning Saturday, Oct. 15, Reston-based nonprofit Reston Interfaith will begin management of the Herndon Neighborhood Resource Center under a contract with Fairfax County.

The Town of Herndon recently transferred responsibility of the NRC’s operations to Fairfax County. The town has operated the center since 1999 with assistance from the county.

Under its contract through the county’s Neighborhood Initiative Program, Reston Interfaith will continue the NRC’s mission to provide human services programs to residents throughout the western portion of Fairfax County.

Since the Neighborhood Resource Center’s opening, many area nonprofit, faith-based organizations, community groups and others have offered services at the center. Reston Interfaith will continue to work with other community groups, including Connections for Hope, to coordinate and expand neighborhood-based services.

There will be a transition period through the winter and the following services, among others, will continue to be offered:

  • Computer training for children and adults
  • Mental andphysical health services
  • Legal counseling
  • Financial literacy classes
  • Employment programs
  • After school programming for children and teens

Additionally, the Town of Herndon will continue to offer programs at the NRC through its Community Policing office, which works to promote crime prevention awareness through the community, and through the Housing Revitalization office, which provides assistance to residents through programs on home improvement and home owner associations, among others.
