Nominations Being Accepted for Mayor's Volunteer Awards

The Town of Herndon is currently accepting nominations for the 28th annual Mayor's Volunteer Appreciation Awards.

The awards recognize outstanding volunteers in the town during National Volunteer Week. The awards ceremony will take place Sunday, April 15. Area volunteers can be nominated for Outstanding Volunteer, the Distinguished Service Award and Distinguished Corporate Service Award. 

Outstanding Volunteers must have volunteered for a minimum of 100 hours within the Town of Herndon, or that provided a direct benefit to the Town of Herndon, during the past year. 

Distinguished Service Award nominees are individuals who have volunteered for several years in the Town of Herndon, with their activities providing community-wide support, or that have volunteered for special projects that involved considerable leadership, time and effort, that produced exceptional results. Their efforts should be with several organizations over a minimum of two years. Previous winners can be considered again after a 10 year period. 

Distinguished Corporate Service Award nominees should be businesses or corporations within the Town of Herndon or that contribute to the Town of Herndon through a commitment to promote the town for the greater good of Herndon. Nominees should be involved in the town through projects and events that bring business and people to Herndon. They shoudl also be supportive of volunteerism in the community through employee volunteer programs, volunteer hours, monetary support or other endeavors. 

Nominations must be submitted to the Town of Herndon's Department of Parks and Recreation by Monday, March 19. The ceremony is sponsored by the Herndon Town Council to extend the town's appreciation of volunteers throughout the community.
