Nominate Your Neighbors for 'Dress Up Herndon for the Holidays'

Deck your halls with themes like classical, whimsical, creative and more.

Town of Herndon residents are busy decking the halls, hanging wreaths, stringing lights and decorating their homes for the holidays. 

They're also invited to nominate their own or their neighbors' homes for the annual Dress Up Herndon for the Holidays neighborhood decoration contest. The contest is sponsored by the town's Cultivating Community Initiative. 

The contest is open to all residents in the Town of Herndon limits. Nominations should be submtted to information@herndon-va.gov or to 703-435-6800 extention 2084 by Friday, Dec. 14.

The judging panel for the contest includes volunteer members of the Cultivating Community Committee. They will travel throughout the town on the evening of Monday, Dec. 17 to determine contest winners.

Judges will look for classical designs, traditional themes, whimsical and creative decorations, and more. Decorations on all nomincated homes must be visible from the street.

Contest winners will be presented with a festive sign to display in their yard on the evening of the 17th. Winners will also be recognized by Mayor Lisa Merkel and the Town Council at the Jan. 15, 2013 public meeting. 

The Cultivating Community Initiative is a program that was created to encourage beautification throughout Herndon's neighborhoods, as well as enrich the quality of life in the town. Other CCI events include the Herndon Holiday Homes Tour, Yard of the Month Awards, Good Neighbor Awards and the Herndon Garden Tour.
