McDonnell Gets RNC Prime Time Spot

Virginia governor will talk about the economy Tuesday at 8 p.m.

Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell will give a speech on small business and the economy Tuesday during prime time at the Republican National Convention.

According to The Richmond Times Dispatch’s Virginia politics blog, McDonnell’s keynote address will air after 8 p.m. on Tuesday — a premium speaking slot. McDonnell's speech is titled “We Built It,” referring to a remark made by President Barack Obama during a July event in Roanoke that has since become controversial on the campaign trail.

Obama was speaking about the role of government investment in infrastructure and businesses when he said, “If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that,” Obama said in July. “Somebody else made that happen.”

The statement, which some argue has been taken out of context in political ads and elsewhere, drew headlines and brought the president under fire from Republicans across the nation.

In his speech, Obama continued: “The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet, so then all the companies could make money off the Internet. The point is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together.”

Many considered McDonnell, who has been chairing the GOP Convention’s platform committee, one of Mitt Romney’s possible choices of running mates.  earlier this month for .

Pre-Republican National Convention events begin this weekend in Tampa, FL and the convention itself will conclude Wednesday.

Technically, Mr. Obama was incorrect - even when taking his comments in context - when he claimed that government researchers developed the Internet. We all know that former Vice President (and the former next President of the United States) Albert Arnold Gore, Jr. invented the Internet after dropping out of Vanderbuilt Divinity School. Or was it after he dropped out of Vanderbuilt Law? Oh, those pesky details...
