Letter to the Editor: President Obama is 'Strong, Consistent'

Herndon woman says Barack Obama is best choice in Nov. 6 election

To the Editor,

We have a distinct choice in this upcoming Presidential election.

Governor Romney wants to overturn Roe v. Wade,  has advocated for letting
Detroit go bankrupt, wanted to let foreclosures hit bottom, and believes
nearly have of Americans view themselves as victims and want government
handouts. He says he understands us.

He touts Massachusetts's Romneycare, criticizes Obamacare, and wants to
voucherize Medicare. He says he understands us.

He makes $10,000 bets, pays 14% in taxes, put his money in off-shore bank
accounts, and has not released any significant tax history.  He says we
should trust him.

He believes in the unproven "trickle down" theory, says he will balance the
budget by closing loopholes, but will not tell us the details of his plans.
He says we will have to trust him.He has continually changed his positions on the issues of abortion, immigration, stimulus, unions, health care, gun laws, TARP and more.  He says he will be a consistent leader.

He took a gaffe-filled trip to England, insulted the British, insulted the
Palestinians, insulted the Polish, continually attacks the Chinese, and
thinks Syria borders Iran. He took advantage of multiple deferments during
the Vietnam War. He says he will be a good Commander-in-Chief.

President Obama has been a steadfast President who has remained focused
during tough times. In the face of an obstructionist Congress he has
withdrawn our troops from Iraq, captured Osama Bin Laden, prevented the auto
industry from collapsing, halted discrimination against gay military service
members, passed a health care reform act, invested in new technologies,
signed a START nuclear arms treaty with Russia, improved Federal standards
for polluting auto emissions, cut taxes for the middle class and small
businesses, and has won a Nobel Peace Prize.

Obama signed the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, as well as
the Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and the Middle Class Tax Relief
and Job Creation Act. He has instituted tax credits to make it easier for
employers to hire veterans.  Growth is up, manufacturing is up, and jobs
have been added to the economy for over 30 straight months.

President Obama is a strong, consistent, honorable and thoughtful leader who
looks out for all Americans and who took the bold steps necessary to lead
our country back into a slow but steady economic recovery.

The best interests of the middle class are best served by republican policies and a Romney presidency. Obama's socialist democrat policies are killing the middle class. Obama's socialist democrat policies caused the housing crisis and the economic collapse.
Don Joy October 30, 2012 at 07:16 PM
Timothy, I support the idea of republicans putting a stop to the massive communist HOAX of so-called alleged global warming.

Below is a video (after a short ad) of President Obama speaking from the Red Cross National Headquarters today, in which he explains the details of the federal relief efforts in New Jersey, New York and other areas of the country that were hit hard by Hurricane Sandy. He also gives instructions to Federal agencies well as suggests things citizens can individually do. http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=50134189n&tag=strip

Colorado? Actually Mt. Whitney in the California Sierra Nevada is higher than many peaks in Colorado's Sawatch Range. Oh, but that leaves out Alaska -- maybe it's too far away to be a legitimate state?...like Hawaii?
Ann H Csonka October 31, 2012 at 08:51 AM
The problem: humanity does not have a century or many decades to prove "climate deniers" wrong (for one thing). @A.Lubber: "In time they were proven wrong and in time it'll happen again. So till then spout away... " Women's Suffrage timeline: http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/naw/nawstime.html . Republicans have passed bills since they took control of the House in 2010 that clearly predict the agenda a Romney administration would establish. He (they) won't say what they intend to do because a vast majority of people with brains & common sense would not vote for them. They have targeted, or will target: EPA, NASA, NOAA, NSF, USGS, highways, rail, national parks/forests, education, college tuition grants, public schools, agricultural modernization, green energy, energy & ocean conservation, food & drug safety, science research, law enforcement, youth programs, school lunches, low-income housing. Oh, yeah -- and health care of course -- repealing Obamacare then voucherizing it to enrich insurance companies, drive up overhead costs and drive more seniors nuts just trying to figure it out! You need to get off the computer and get people out to vote against the Rip-and-Rape team while enough of our nation and the planet are still left to salvage. Voters need to even swallow the fact that the incumbent Pres is not blond and blue-eyed and vote for him because he IS competent and cares about sustaining people on this planet. ALL people -- not just Grover Norquist's slaves.
Ann H Csonka October 31, 2012 at 08:55 AM
Regarding seniors' futures: "Forget Obammy and vote for yo Mammy"! This just combines a minor theme here and a good public-interest short on one of the TV channels.
Don Joy October 31, 2012 at 12:18 PM
Timothy, I am completely in favor of ending the HOAX of alleged so-called "global warming."
Mark Carolla October 31, 2012 at 09:05 PM
Ann, I agree - However, although Mr. Wahl's pathetic rantings speak for themselves, Bill Campenni is not in the same category. Bill is a Vietnam fighter pilot veteran and a highly educated and compassionate American hero. We are a free country because of people such as Bill. He does not scrawl about "Obammy" and there isn't one racist cell in his body....and he does not spout off racist opinions that could be as interpreted as advocating (and indeed, when Mr. Wahl is called to task for them he is eager to stand by them and taunts those who criticise him for it with name-calling.) Mr. Wahl and many of the knuckle heads who keep chanting nonsense thinking it'll turn into fact (e.g. Obama is a "Muslim Socialist") are not like Bill Campenni by any stretch of the imagination. Although I don't agree with some of Bill's politics I respect his opinions despite my being the target at times of his wry wit. Ann, your including Bill in your comments about racists and the other guy is wrong and frankly is as baseless and senseless as Mr. Wahl's baby talk. You are free to ignore Bill's opinions but I will say that they are all, if you were to discuss them with Bill, backed with reason and analysis, even if some of us would disagree.
Ann H Csonka October 31, 2012 at 10:21 PM
@ Mark Carolla -- "...Bill Campenni is not in the same category." Obviously not. r. Wahl is ... whatever and I try to just skip/ignore his comments. We know Bill's background and appreciate his service to the country. But what brought that up? Where did I say anything about Bill? Dunno. I suggested Wahl use the local Patch of his current residence in Calif... I posted a harmless little note about the highest ground in the U.S. . . but what the heck did I do to warrant a lecture from you on Bill Campenni's life history, intelligence and "style"? I know his positions are rooted in facts and carefully crafted, whether I agree or not is not an issue. Some folks just have to agree to disagree. So where did I include Bill in something about racists? ...or even say anything about racists in this thread?
Mark Carolla October 31, 2012 at 11:10 PM
Ann Csonka - Wrong Ann! :) My comment was in a thread replying to to ANN LUBBERS (see above). Sorry, I should have used last names - but when I typed my reply I didn't realize you were in the thread. Sorry if you thought I was addressing you - you are one of those who most civily engages on the Patch...and, by the way, I agree with your comments in this thread. Again, my apologies for the misunderstanding. .(Some of this thread didn't appear until hours after it appeared in and was answered via my e-mail!) Let this be proof that no good deed goes unpunished!
Doug Samuelson October 31, 2012 at 11:26 PM
Well, we seem to have another troll in Don Joy. Most scientists who have studied the phenomenon seem to agree we really have a substantial global climate change taking place, probably caused in large part by carbon-based fuel emissions. There's room for reasonable disagreement about what to do about it, but those big sheets of ice falling off Antarctica sure don't look like a hoax. Please take your meds and go learn some science.
William Campenni November 01, 2012 at 01:30 AM
Wow! Did I scare the Trick or Treaters tonight! I dressed as Obama's Second Term. Then I gave the candy to their parents and told the kids they each owed $51,600 for it! Did they run! Next year I'd be Joe Biden's mouth, but by then he will be a forgotten footnote of history, like Garret Hobart.
Doug Samuelson November 01, 2012 at 01:34 AM
Funny, I got much the same reaction by dressing as Romney and telling the kids to stop looking for handouts and go get a job.

Please don't let Obama sweep Benghazi under the rug... Lets not forget those four who were left to be slaughtered in Benghazi... Do not reward Obama for this epic failure… Every voter needs to read this excellent article... Very well worth your time... http://spectator.org/archives/2012/11/01/benghazi-obamas-core-deceit/ These are pretty good as well: http://www.gazette.com/opinion/romney-146793-obama-benghazi.html http://frontpagemag.com/2012/dgreenfield/benghazigate-obamas-many-lies-about-libya/ http://www.canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/50657 http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Journalism/2012/10/25/CBS-Busts-Obama--and-Itself-Hidden-60-Minutes-Clip-Proves-White-House-Lied-About-Benghazi Romney/Ryan 2012
Colter95 November 03, 2012 at 06:29 PM
Photo-op for the political gain of both Christie and Obama... Where is your YouTube video of those abandoned in Staten Island, among other places?... One photo-op doesn't make you presidential, nor does helping one state with a conservative governor make you bi-partisan... You cannot clear up nearly four years of devisiveness and incompetence with one photo op...
Colter95 November 03, 2012 at 06:30 PM
I saw Obama yesterday claiming the new job numbers are proof that his policies are working and that we are in an economic recovery... Fact is, that is not the truth, or even close to the truth... First, the unemployment rate ticked up to 7.9% and the year-to-date monthly average of 157,000 payroll jobs is barely enough to keep up with population growth -- much less make up for the 8 million jobs lost during the Great Recession. Second, the so-called real unemployment rate (U6) remains elevated at 14.6%, albeit down from 14.7% the prior month. Similarly, the labor participation rate is at 63.8%, up from its multi-decade low but still incredibly weak. Third, average hourly earnings fell a penny in October and average hours worked fell to 34.4 from 34.5 in September. Stagnant wages means "we're not generating income," Reinhart says. "That's a problem in terms of the durability of an economic expansion, which is usually fueled by consumption. To get consumption you've got to generate income." Also, just look at your checkbook. We are paying a lot more for everything now than we did in 2008. The price of gas has doubled. At the same time, wages have gone down, and that's if you're lucky to have a job. In 2008, 25 banks went out of business. In 2012, 48 banks have gone out of business. Almost double the amount. Does that sound like recovery to you? Don't believe the Obama lies!! Romney/Ryan 2012

The Battling Bastards of Benghazi We're the Battling Bastards of Benghazi, no fame, no glory, no paparazzi. Just a firey death in a blazing hell, defending the country we loved so well. It wasn't our job, but we answered the call, fought to the consulate, 'n scalled th' wall. We pulled twenty countrymen from the jaws of fate, led them to safety, 'n stood at th' gate. Just the two of us, 'n foe by th' score, but we stood fast to bar th' door. We called for reinforcement, but it was denied, so we fought, 'n we fought, 'n we fought, 'n we died. We gave our all for our Uncle Sam, 'n Obama didn't give a damn, just two dead SEALS, who carried the load, no thanks to us, we were just bumps in the road.
Doug Samuelson November 03, 2012 at 08:06 PM
Actually, two dead former SEALS who were working for the CIA. We now know that the facility the bad guys attacked was a CIA station. All the publicity has surely blown whatever cover they had. But, hey, what does security of intelligence officers count when there's Republican political hay to be made? Just ask Valerie Plame -- remember her?
Another Patriotic Liberal November 03, 2012 at 08:31 PM
It's time for the Tea Party wingnuts to see that their conspiracy-theory worldview is not going to carry the day on Tuesday. They can return to their bunkers and fulminate for another four years, reading their Breitbart, listening to their Michael Savage, watching their Fox News, and sponging off their parents. Obama loves America AND Americans. With his leadershp, we're cleaning up the mess left by the elephsnts. Stop your whining!
Doug Samuelson November 03, 2012 at 08:33 PM
And how do you like Michael Brown, the face of cluelessness during Katrina, criticizing Obama for responding "too quickly" to Hurricane Sandy? The irony is thick enough to cut with a chainsaw, not so? Let's keep it simple: FEMA worked under CLinton, thanks to James Lee Witt. The Bush administration trashed it by reallocating resources from everything else to terrorism, and not doing that very effectively, and by appointing too many political hacks like Michael Brown. Now FEMA works well again. It's called leadership and competence. See?
Jonathan Erickson November 03, 2012 at 08:37 PM
APL thanks for your rant that changed my mind. I keep saying Romney ain't Bush and your smear tactics are not really working.
Doug Samuelson November 03, 2012 at 08:41 PM
You're right, Jonathan Erickson, Romney ain't Bush. Bush got elected.
Jonathan Erickson November 03, 2012 at 10:26 PM
And Romney will be elected Tursday. Consistent about blaming others for anything and everything is Obamas main strength.
Another Patriotic Liberal November 04, 2012 at 01:07 AM
The following people either work for Romney in hogh-ranking policy positions, work for Pro-Romney PACs, spoke for Romney st the GOP Convention, or actively campaign for Romney: Condi Rice Dan Señor John Bolton John Sununu Michael Chertoff James Baker III Karl Rove Jen Bush Cofer Black Robert Zoellick Michael Hayden And many more! What do they have in common? All Bushies! If more Americans knew this, Romney would be 10 points down nationwide. Move Forward! Vote for Progress! Vote Democratic!
Another Patriotic Liberal November 04, 2012 at 01:09 AM
Jeb Bush, not Jen. Stupid Smartphone!!! ;-p
Mark Carolla November 04, 2012 at 01:12 AM
Governor Romney, probably counseled by former CIA and NSA Director General Hayden who has served as one of his advisors - has kept his mouth shut about Looney Tunes reports of "lies," "deceit" and so forth in the right wing press. The CIA has released some details about the Intelligence Cycle which have appeared in the media such as the link here from the NY Times - http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/02/world/africa/cia-played-major-defensive-role-in-libya-attack.html?pagewanted=1&_r=0 Intelligence officers who stand watch in watch centers performing indications and warnings intelligence and those who plan or execute non combatant emergency evacuation operations know about the "fog of war," conflicting reports, and understand the difficulties of getting people out of harm's way. Governor Romney appears to have been made aware of that, and despite his lack of experience in foreign affairs and national security has the smarts and tact to not attempt to make a campaign issue based on yellow journalism and speculative opinions. That might, in fact, arguably be one of the reasons that could be given to vote for him, simply because, in this case at least he doesn't regurgitate drivel and treat speculation as fact..
