Last Chance: Council to Vote on Town of Herndon Budget

The Herndon Town Council will continue its work on the town's 2013 budget at Tuesday's public hearing. Residents are welcome to comment on and provide feedback on the budget.

The Herndon Town Council will finish voting on the 2013 budget on Tuesday, May 8.

At the April 24 public hearing the council voted to maintain the town’s current real estate tax rate, meals tax rate and other town taxies and levies at their current levels for the 2013 budget year.

The town’s real estate tax rate is $0.265 per $100 of assessed value. The town’s meals tax rate will remain at 2.5 percent for the 2013 budget, and the cigarette tax will remain at 75 cents per pack.

The town’s business, professional and occupational license taxes remain at the current rates, and the motor vehicle licensing fee remains at $25 for vehicles weighing less than 4,000 pounds and private passenger vehicles, and $32 for vehicles weighing more than 4,000 pounds.

Though the council voted on the town’s tax rates for the 2013 budget, it deferred a decision on fiscal planning, funds appropriation, establishment of a pay plan and capital funding for 2013.

The council deferred the vote so that its members, as well as town staff, could consider how Fairfax County’s budget may impact the town’s budget. .

Town residents, business and landowners will be able to speak on issues concerning the remainder of the town’s budget decisions at tonight’s public hearing at 7 p.m. in the Ingram Council Chambers, 765 Lynn St. in Herndon.
