Hutchinson Elected Herndon's Vice Mayor

Council member receiving highest number of votes in May's election is traditionally selected for position

Herndon's Mayor Lisa Merkel and members of the Herndon Town Council approved a resolution Tuesday naming council member Connie Haines Hutchinson as Herndon's vice mayor for the 2012-2014 term. 

The resolution passed 6-0, with Hutchinson abstaining from the vote. It is tradition that the council member who received the highest number of votes during the town's council election is named as vice mayor. Hutchinson received the highest number of votes

Hutchinson, who grew up in Herndon and raised her family in the town, was first elected to the town council in 1992. She served as vice mayor during the 2008-2010 term as well.

Hutchinson is a Certified Local Government Official with the Virginia Elected Officials Leadership Academy and has completed the Virginia Public Mayors Institute, sponsored by the Virginia Municipal League and the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service.

She has also chaired the VML's General Laws Policy Committee and and serves on VML's Community and Economic and Legislative committees. She serves as secretary of the Dulles Area Transportation Association and is a representative of Herndon on the town's inter-jurisdictional committee with Fairfax and Loudoun counties.
