Herndon Town Council Talks 2012 Budget, Proposed Meals Tax Increase

Herndon Town Manager Art Anselene provided an overview of the town's proposed 2012 budget.

A portion of the discussion focused on the only tax increase proposed—a 1 percent increase to the meals tax. The increase would bring the town's current meals tax rate from 1.5 percent to 2.5 percent, raising an additional $750,000 in revenue for the town.

That revenue would go toward four key projects, including major road repaving on Herndon Parkway, the future downtown parking garage, downtown utility undergrounding and economic development efforts for restaurants within the town limits.
