Herndon To Hold Veterans Day Observance

Herndon's Veterans Day Observance will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday

Herndon's American Legion Wayne Kidwell Post 184, along with the Town of Herndon, will hold its annual Veterans Day Observance at the Veterans Memorial on the Herndon Town Green on Friday. 

The Town Green is located behind the Herndon Municipal Building, 777 Lynn st. The observance will be held at 11 a.m., and will include the Herndon High School Junior Naval ROTC presenting the Colors. This year's featured guest speaker will be Col. William Campenni of the US Air Force/Air National Guard.

This year the National Anthem will be sung by Harlon Reece, director of the Herndon Towne Square Singers. The Herndon Women's Club will serve coffee and donuts after the observance. 

The Veterans Day Observance is free and open to the public.  In case of inclement weather, the observance will be held in the Mary Ingram Council Chambers, 765 Lynn St.

Additionally, the Avenue of Flags will be on display at Chestnut Grove Cemetery from dusk until dawn. Fifty-two veteran casket flags will be displayed from the main gate to the side gate. Accompanying each flga is a market identifying the veteran. The display can be seen from car or on foot. Chestnut Grove Cemetery is located at the northwest corner of Dranesville Road and Herndon Parkway.
