Herndon's Steve DeBenedittis Recognized by Fairfax County Board

Steve DeBenedittis has served as mayor of the town of Herndon for the last six years. Fairfax County's Board of Supervisors recognized him for his service on Tuesday.

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors recognized Herndon Mayor Steve DeBenedittis for his six years of service to the town at its meeting on Tuesday morning. 

Dranesville district Supervisor John Foust and board Chair Sharon Bulova requested the resolution thanking DeBenedittis. Foust thanked DeBenedittis for his cooperation over the five years they have been in office together and said as the mayor of Herndon, DeBenedittis has been responsive to his constituents.  

DeBenedittis' wife, Rosemary, Councilwoman Connie Hutchinson and incoming Councilmen Dave Kirby and Charlie Waddell attended the Board of Supervisors meeting.

Hutchinson said that she was not present to talk about DeBenedittis' accomplishments, but rather to talk about his character.

“His tenure had embodied the true spirit of the ideal of—of the people, by the people, and for the people," Hutchinson said. "Steve stepped up to help his hometown during a tumultuous time and his compassion, respect, and calm and steady demeanor allowed him to lead us through those times not with an iron fist but with a full heart.”

“Our community is a better place for your leadership,” Waddell said. He also thanked Rosemary and the couple's children for their support of their husband and father during the past six years.
