Herndon Residents Contribute $47K to 2012 Presidential Campaigns

Residents in the town limits have donated about $19K while residents in the 20171 area just outside of Herndon have donated about $28K.

Herndon area residents have contributed about $47,000 to presidential campaigns during the 2012 election cycle.

Residents in the 20170 ZIP code donated about $19,000 to various presidential campaigns. Those living in the 20171 ZIP code contributed about $28,000. 

As of Feb. 21, 2012, President Barack Obama’s campaign has received about $21,000 from Herndon community members, according to information provided at Opensecrets.org.

Former Gov. Mitt Romney’s campaign had the second-highest amount in contributions, with about $20,000 from Herndon ZIP codes.

The campaigns to elect U.S. Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum and former U.S. Rep. Newt Gingrich’s (R-Georgia) received less than $5,000 each.

Fairfax County residents have donated a total of more than $1 million to presidential campaigns.

More than half of those dollars have gone to Romney’s campaign, which has gained a total of about $576,000 from Fairfax County residents. Obama has received the second-highest number of donations, with $457,000.

Gingrich has received about $57,000 from county residents, while Santorum and Paul have collected about $17,000 and $12,000 respectively.

The Virginia Republican Presidential Primary election will be held on Tuesday, March 6, but only Romney and Paul will appear on the ballot.

Polls are open between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m.
