Herndon Parks and Rec Wins Awards at State Conference

Herndon's honors include for one for best new event with the Aqua Egg Hunt, which was held near Easter

The Herndon Parks and Recreation Department won three awards at the 57th annual conference of the Virginia Recreation and Park Society in Norfolk recently.

More than 700 delegates from around the state attended the conference, which gives recreation and park professionals a chance to exchange and learn from each other while discussing common interests.

A highlight of each year’s conference is the awards presentation, which honors individuals, departments and organizations throughout Virginia who demonstrate excellence in many areas throughout the previous year.

More than 100 applications were received for awards in 15 categories, and awards are judged by juries of peers. Herndon Parks and Recreation won three awards in the 25,000 and less population category:

• The 2010 Aqua Egg Hunt was voted the “Best New Special Event”

• The 2010 Herndon Festival Poster was voted “Best Promotional Effort Circular, Flyer, or Poster”

• The 2010 Harvest Moon Swim Meet T-Shirt was voted “Best Promotional Effort Specialty or Apparel Piece”
