Herndon Council Preview: Zoning Discussion on Demolition of Historic Landmarks

The Council will discuss a zoning ordinance text amendment on the establishment and demolition of historic district landmarks, buildings and structures.

The Herndon Town Council will discuss a zoning ordinance text amendment to update the town’s ordinance on the demolition of historic district landmarks, buildings or structures tonight.

The amendment updates the town’s ordinance to bring it into compliance with Virginia State Code. 

During tonight's Herndon Town Council work session the council will also discuss a contract to sell 532 square feet of Town real estate on the north side of the Herndon Commerce Center building to be used as a planting strip.

The town would retain public easements for the improvement of the downtown streetscape and other public municipal uses. The Herndon Commerce Center plans to install windows on the parking lot side of the building.

The town will receive $17,290 for the piece of land, which is the appraised value.

Other agenda items for the work session include:

• An ordinance granting a 20-year Franchise to Verizon Virginia, LLC for the location of telecommunications facilities within the Town’s public streets and public places.

• A resolution authorizing the submission of a local government grant application to the Virginia Commission for the Arts Challenge Grant.

• A resolution authorizing the Town of Herndon’s application for re-certification for the Crime Prevention Community Program.

• A resolution to award a contract to Geotechnical Engineering and Construction Materials Testing and Inspection Services.

• Discussion of the following items: City Works, the town’s Vision Plan Update, an AT&T project on Dranesville Road, and an update on the Station Street Project.

The work session begins at 7 p.m. in the Hoover Conference room of the Ingram Council Chambers. Following the meeting the Council will go into closed session.
