Herndon Council Meetings Available on Streaming Video

The Town of Herndon's new Granicus system puts Herndon Council meetings right online, along with the corresponding agendas and memos.

Town of Herndon residents and those interested in keeping up with the Town Council can do so easily from wherever they are with the town's new streaming video system.

The council meetings are now being streamed live on the web through Granicus, a California-based provider for on-demand streaming video content. The meetings are also recorded by Herndon Community Television and are accessible on the town's cable access news channel.

The meetings can be watched in real time or any time after, when they are permanently archived. Each video is indexed to that meeting's agenda so if there is only one public hearing or item that someone would like to watch, they can click on that item on the agenda and the video will begin at the specific agenda item. Town Council work sessions are not recorded but agendas and minutes for those meetings will be available through the system.

“Our new streaming video system enables citizens to watch Town Council meetings at their own convenience,” said Mayor Steve DeBenedittis. “It’s yet another way we are working to make the town’s government accessible to its citizens.”

To access streaming video of Town Council meetings, users may go to www.herndon-va.gov and click on the “Council Webcast” tab on the upper left hand side of the homepage. In addition to the streaming video, public hearings will continue to air live on HCTV, channel 23 (Cox) and channel 28 (Verizon FIOS).
