Herndon Celebrates with Hometown Holidays

Holiday events will take place in November and December.

Herndon's Hometown Holidays will celebrate the joy of the winter holidays this month and next month with a variety of events. Here are this year's Hometown Holidays events: 

• Towne Square Singers' Holiday Concert - "Decembers Past" 
The Towne Square Singers will perform favorite musical numbers from their holidays shows of the past 30 years. Performances are Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 2 at 2 p.m. at Elden Street Players' Industrial Strength Theatre. Tickets are $12. Call 703-787-7300 or visit www.Herndon-VA.gov. 

• Holiday Homes Tour of Herndon 
Visit some of Herndon's historic and new homes all decked out for the holidays on Saturday, Dec. 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are available at Herndon Florist (716 Lynn St.), ArtSpace (750 Center St.), and the Herndon Community Center (814 Ferndale Ave.). • Winter Open House - Herndon Fortnightly Library
The Winter Open House at Herndon Fortnightly Library will include live music by glass harpist Jamey Turner, crafts sponsored by the Council for the Arts of Herndon and refreshments by the Fortnightly Club and Friends of the Herndon Library. The all ages event is Saturday, Dec. 1 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is free.  

• Holiday Tree Lighting and Sing-Along
The Town of Herndon will light its Christmas tree to celebrate the holidays, as well as hold a carol sing-along and a visit from Santa Claus. The event takes place at the Town Square in downtown Herndon on Saturday, Dec. 1 from 5-6 p.m. and is free.

• Herndon Holiday Arts and Crafts Show
The Holiday Arts and Crafts show is a place to find more than 90 vendors offering unique gifts, decorations and other handmade items. The show takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2 at the Herndon Community Center and is free to attend.  

• Holiday Model Train Show
The annual Holiday Model Train show will be held Dec. 8 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Dec. 9 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The show features large train sets and the W&OD caboose in downtown Herndon will be open for tours. This year the train show will be held at the Herndon Municipal Center (777 Lynn St.) and the event is free. 

• Dress Up Herndon for the Holidays
The judging for the annual Dress Up Herndon for the Holidays contest will take place from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 17. The contest is open to all Town of Herndon residents who decorate the outside of their home for the holidays. Categories include traditional, whimsical and more. The contest is free. • Santa's Workshop
Santa will bring holiday fun to the Herndon Community Center with a visit, crafts and a lunch on Saturday, Dec. 15 from 10 a.m. to noon. Register by Dec. 10 to get a spot. Tickets are $8 per child and $4 per adult if they're eating. Call 703-787-7300 for more information. 

• New Year's Eve Golf Tournament
The annual four-person scramble will take place on Monday, Dec. 31 at 10 a.m. at Herndon Centennial Golf Course (909 Ferndale Ave.). The $70 entry fee includes the green fee, cart fee, range balls, prizes and lunch. Register to enter by Dec. 21. Call 703-471-5769 for more information. 

• New Year's Eve Celebration at ArtSpace Herndon
ArtSpace will hold its third annual New Year's Eve Celebration beginning at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 31. At 7 p.m. family friendly activities begin. From 9-10 p.m. a bonfire will be held outside, and from 10 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. there will be music and refreshments inside the gallery. The event is all ages and free and open to the public.
