Herndon Announces Official 2012 Town Council and Mayoral Candidates

Nine candidates will vie for the six seats on the Herndon Town Council, while three will run for mayor.

The Town of Herndon announced the official candidates for the 2012 Herndon Town Council and Mayoral election. Candidates had to have all paperwork and petitions in by Tuesday, March 6. 

Candidates for Mayor for the 2012-14 term are Lisa Merkel, Bill Tirrell, Sr., and Jasbinder Singh. All three are currently on the Herndon Town Council. 

There are six Town Council seats to be filled for 2012-14. Candidates include Eric Boll, Jeffrey Davidson, Connie Haines Hutchinson, Melissa Jonas, Dave Kirby, Sheila Olem, Charlie Waddell, Dave Webster II, and Grace Han Wolf. Hutchinson, Olem and Wolf are currently on the Town Council. Kirby and Waddell have both previously served on the Council.

Election Day in Herndon is Tuesday, May 1, 2012, and voting will be held at the Herndon Community Center, 814 Ferndale, Ave. It is the only polling location for Town of Herndon elections. 

Residents of the Town of Herndon who are eligible but not yet registered to vote are required to register by April 9 in order to vote in the town election. Applications are available through the Fairfax County General Registrar’s office at 703-222-0776 or online at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/eb. Completed applications must be printed and mailed, or delivered in person, to the General Registrar, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Suite 323, Fairfax VA 22035-0081.

To apply for an absentee ballot by mail, the Fairfax County Office of Elections must receive an absentee ballot application from a qualified voter by April 24, 2012. Absentee ballot applications may also be obtained in person by April 28, 2012, at the Fairfax County Office of Elections. Applications are available at county government centers and libraries or may be downloaded online.
