Gas Leak Shuts Down Several Herndon Streets

Issue resolved late in the afternoon, businesses and streets reopened.

UPDATE, 4:30 p.m.: Town of Herndon Police alerted residents just prior to 4 p.m. that the gas leak was fixed and roads and businesses had reopened.

ORIGINAL: The Town of Herndon Police is warning residents to avoid the downtown area if at all possible due to gas leak.

The leak at the intersection of Elden Street and Spring Street has shut down traffic all around downtown Herndon, according to Public Information Officer Lt. Jim Moore.

"The Fairfax County Fire Department and the gas company are on scene," Moore said. "Repairs may go into rush hour so expect traffic delays."

Businesses and government buildings in the immediate area have been evacuated as a precaution, according to Moore.
