Five Things to Know This Week in Herndon

From Jan. 7 to 11: Pine Street closure, HHS basketball takes on Centreville, Herndon Chamber and Council meet.

1. Pine Street in downtown Herndon will be closed Monday as Virginia Power works on lines on Station, Pine and Monroe streets in the downtown area.

2. The Herndon Hornet varsity basketball team takes on Centreville High at 7:30 p.m. Monday at home. On Thursday they'll play Chantilly High at 7:30 p.m. in an away game.

3. The Herndon Chamber Committee will meet Tuesday to learn more about the Town of Herndon's new branding initiatives. Town Public Information Officer Anne Curtis and Mayor Lisa Merkel will be on hand.

4. The Council for the Arts of Herndon is hosting a "meet the artist" event for artist Keigh Naquin, who created the new mural on the side of Ice House Cafe, on Wednesday. The event starts at 5:30 p.m. at O'Sullivan's. 

5. The Herndon Town Council will meet for its first work session of 2013 on Tuesday. On the agenda: the opening of a new temporary fire station in Herndon as the old fire station is torn down and rebuilt.
