Five Things To Know This Week

Join St. Joseph School for Cub Scout information night; Herndon High to host "The Perils of the College Drinking Culture"

1. Boys who are in kindergarten through 4th grade in Herndon. Pack leaders will hold an information session Tuesday night to talk about the benefits, fun and learning that Scouting provides. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. in room 205 at St. Joseph School, 750 Peach Tree St.  

2. presented by the Unified Prevention Coalition, Fairfax County Police and the Herndon High School PTSA on Tuesday night. The program will include a screening of the documentary, Haze, followed by a question and answer session with a panel of experts. The forum starts at 7 p.m. in the auditorium at Herndon High School, 700 Bennett St. 

3. The at 7 p.m. in the Mary Ingram Council Chambers, 765 Lynn St. During the meeting the council will be taking action on the Town of Herndon's 2013 budget. To learn more about the budget, click here.

4. The Town of Herndon's Public Works Department will host Big Truck Days on May 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and May 4 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The annual event lets children and their parents get up close to check out some of the town's big trucks and heavy equipment. Light refreshments will be served and children will receive souvenirs. The event will be held at the town's operations center at 1479 Sterling Rd. Click here for more information. 

5. The Town of Herndon will be celebrating Arbor Day on Friday from 1-2 p.m. at Herndon Elementary School, 630 Dranesville Rd. The event will include a tree planting on the school grounds, a presentation to the town of the Tree City USA award and the Growth Award by the Virginia Department of Forestry.
