Five Things To Know This Week

Nominate yourself or a neighbor for the Town of Herndon's Yard of the Month; join the MOMS Club of Herndon; local author Ron Culberson will hold a book signing Friday.

1) It's Yard of the Month season in Herndon and town residents can nominate their own or their neighbor's yards for the award. Yard of the Month recognizes residents whose yards contribute to the beautification of their neighborhood and the town. Winners receive gift certificates to Meadows Farms and are recognized at Herndon Town Council meetings. Nominations for the June Yard of the Month award are due by May 15. 2) The Rotary Club of Herndon's next meeting will be on Classification Talks on Wednesday, May 16. The Rotary Club of Herndon meets each Wednesday morning at 7:30 a.m. at Amphora's Diner Deluxe. For more information about Rotary meetings, email herndo­nrotary@­gmail.­com.

3) The on Thursday, May 17 to discuss ideas for summer activities for children. The meeting will be from 10-11:30 a.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 651 Dranesville Rd. The moms will be talking about what they like to do with their kids in the summer, from summer camps to craft projects.

4) Local , Do it Well. Make it Fun. The Key to Success in Life, Death and Almost Everything in Between, on Friday, May 18 at 6 p.m. at the Reston Barnes & Noble. Culberson is a speaker and humorist and lives in Herndon. He is the incoming president of the National Speakers Association and has written humor columns for the Herndon Observer and Herndon Patch.
