Five Things To Know This Week

A Town of Herndon edition.

A lot is happening in the Town of Herndon this week, including meetings on Metro, important intersection improvements and more.

1. The Herndon Planning Commission is taking a look at the new draft of the Metro Area Study tonight (Jan. 9) at 7 p.m. in the Mary Ingram Council Chambers, located at 765 Lynn St. Additionally, the Planning Commission will hold a special community meeting for feedback on the new plan at 7 p.m. on Jan. 23 in the lobby of the Herndon Municipal Center, 777 Lynn St. 

2. The Herndon Town Council will hold public hearings on the intersection improvements, including a proposed traffic circle, at the intersection of Dranesville Road and Park Avenue, as well as Park Avenue and Monroe Street. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the Mary Ingram Council Chambers, 765 Lynn St.

3. Town of Herndon residents can leave their Christmas trees curbside this week on their trash days. Town residents can also drop off trees at the Town Shop, located at 1479 Sterling Rd. any time through Jan. 15., day or night.

4. The Town of Herndon is sponsoring a blood drive through the American Red Cross on Monday, Jan. 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The blood drive will be held in the rear parking lot of the Herndon Municipal Center. The Red Cross now allows donors to schedule their appointments online. Click here to schedule an appointment.

5. The Herndon Town Council recently adopted an ordinance that exempts qualifying businesses that open locations within the town limits from paying business license taxes for one year beginning January 2012, and for two years beginning January 2013 and beyond. Click here for more details.
