Fairfax DOT Recommends Herndon Metro Station be Named “Herndon”

Fairfax County's Department of Transportation is suggesting that "Herndon" be the name used for the station that will drop off passengers in the town of Herndon to the north and at the Herndon-Monroe Park-and-Ride to the south.

The Fairfax County Department of Transportation has recommended the future Metro station that will drop passengers off in Herndon and at the Herndon-Monroe Park-and-Ride be named “Herndon,” according to The Washington Post.

Between February and March the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority posted an online survey to get feedback from area residents on what the station names would be. WMATA said names should be short, one word if possible, and relevant to the area they are in.

The WMATA survey received more than 16,200 votes, the Post reports, with 47 percent of respondents living in Fairfax County. According to the post, Fairfax County DOT will recommend Wiehle-Reston East for the Wiehle Avenue station, Reston Town Center for the Reston Parkway station, and Innovation for the Rt. 28 station, after Innovation Avenue.
