Fairfax County Recognizes Coach Phyllis Pearce

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors recognized Phyllis Pearce for 21 years of service coaching the Herndon High School girls field hockey team.

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution recognizing Phyllis Pearce for her 21 years as the coach of Herndon High School's girls field hockey coach on Tuesday, Jan. 10.

Though she has stepped down from coaching, Pearce is still a special education and English teacher at Herndon High School. She has spent 37 years teaching in Virginia, 26 of those with Fairfax County.

During an interview with Patch in November, Pearce said she will miss walking onto the field but will be pursuing other dreams she has put off in the meantime, such as a possible second master's degree or other educational opportunities.
