Fairfax County Declares State of Emergency Due to Hurricane Irene

The declaration allows the county to be eligible for state and federal reimbursements for damages due to the storm

Fairfax County's County Executive Anthony Griffin declared a state of local emergency for Fairfax County at about 10 p.m. Saturday night.

All roads that are designated as "snow emergency" routes are being enforced and vehicles may not park on them. The routes can be found here.

Fairfax County says a local state of emergency shouldn't alarm residents to evacuate or take other action. The declaration allows the county to apply for federal or state reimbursements if needed.
