Council Elects Jennifer Baker Vice Mayor

Baker was the candidate with the highest number of votes in May's town election.

Town of Herndon Mayor Lisa C. Merkel and members of the Herndon Town Council approved a resolution naming Jennifer K. Baker as vice mayor for the 2014-2016 term.

The resolution naming Baker passed with a vote of 6-0, with Baker abstaining.  Traditionally, the councilmember who receives the highest number of votes during the general town elections is named to the post of vice mayor; Baker received the highest number of votes during the election on May 6.

A resident of Herndon since 2004, Baker is serving her first term on the Town Council.  Her community involvement includes membership on the Holiday Homes Tour Committee since 2008, serving as its chair since 2013; service as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer in Fairfax County; and membership in the Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO), which promotes educational opportunities for women. She is also active with the Council for the Arts of Herndon as well as community events such as Friday Night Live and the Herndon Festival.

Baker is a former math teacher for the Fairfax County Public Schools System and currently works for Tableau Software.  She holds a BA in mathematics from the State University of New York Geneseo. She lives in Herndon with her husband, Edward Terrenoire.
