Commemoration Ceremony for 9/11 Pentagon Attack Anniversary Announced

Moment of silence will be held at 9:37 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11.

Arlington County's top fire and law enforcement officials will participate in a moment of silence next month as part of a commemoration of the 9/11 attack at the Pentagon.

The public is invited to join them for the ceremony, which starts at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, in the Courthouse Plaza at 2100 Clarendon Blvd.

Arlington County Sheriff Beth Arthur, Police Chief Doug Scott and Fire Chief James Schwartz will participate in the moment of silence at 9:37 a.m. to recognize the 184 lives that were lost that day.

Schwartz was the incident commander for the Pentagon attack, and the Arlington County Fire Department was the lead agency.

The moment of silence will be followed by the playing of Taps and the lowering of the flag to half-staff. Arlington County's Combined Color Guard, which is made up of members of the Police Department, Fire Department and Sheriff's Office, will present the colors, according to a news release.

Courthouse Plaza is on the Orange Line. Metrobus 38B, 4B and 4E serve the area, along with ART bus 41, 61, 62 and 77. Capital Bikeshare and Zipcar also serve the area.
