Town Government Building Vandalized

Police estimate the damage to be several thousands of dollars.

According to Town officials, most of the windows of the glass, domed Council Chambers building at 765 Lynn St. were smashed late Friday night.

Officials estimate the incident took place around 10:45 p.m.

According to Herndon Police, witnesses reported seeing a tall, black male wearing dark clothing throw something at the building and then run away in the direction of Grace Street. Police responded to the scene and found the windows smashed.

Fairfax County Police assisted with the use of their helicopter to hover over the area and try and locate the suspect, but no one was found.

Police estimate the damage to the building to be around $4,500 to $5,000.

As of Saturday morning, wooden boards had been put up around the building as a temporary fix until the building can be repaired.

Herndon Police ask that anyone who may know anything about the incident or may have seen any suspicious activity in the area around 10:45 p.m. Friday, to call the police department at 703-435-6846, or contact Sgt. Thompson at 703-435-6881 ext. 2332 or stephen.thompson@herndon-va.gov.
