Police Nab Suspected Herndon Bank Robber in Florida

Vigilant citizens helped police identify him.

Town of Herndon police announced Tuesday that the man they believe to have robbed the Wells Fargo Bank on Elden Street in Herndon last month has been arrested in Florida.

On Dec. 27 at around 2:30 p.m., a man wearing a bandanna over his face jumped the counter at the Wells Fargo at 1099 Elden St. and robbed the bank teller.

Shortly after, Herndon police released security camera photos of the robbery.

Public information officer Lt. Jim Moore said the department received several tips from citizens who saw the security photos, and through following up on the tips, they were able to identify a suspect—Jonzel M. Bailey, 22, whose last known address was in Sterling.

Police said Tuesday that Bailey was located in Florida and taken into custody. They are currently awaiting his extradition to Virginia.
