Herndon Townhouse Fire

Home is a total loss

A Herndon-area townhouse on Schwenger Place is a total loss after the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department was called to battle a fire at about 8:40 p.m. on Thursday night.

When firefighters got to the scene they found heavy smoke and fire coming from both floors of the two-story, end-unit home. They initially conducted defensive fire operations until most of the fire was out, before going inside to continue battling the fire from there and searching for occupants.

According to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue it took firefighters about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control. The townhouse was found to have been vacant for an undetermined amount of time. No injuries were reported. The townhouse is a total loss and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
