Herndon Man Dies in Dranesville Road Accident

Driver charged with felony hit and run, no operator's license and filing a false police report.

A Herndon man, who has not yet been identified, is dead after a single-vehicle accident that occurred at about 3 a.m. Saturday morning on Dranesville Road.

Fairfax County police have arrested the driver of that vehicle, Elixavier Ramirez, 23, of Herndon, in connection with the accident.

The victim, a man in his early 30s, was a passenger in a 1997 BMW. He was ejected from the vehicle after the driver allegedly lost control and ran off the right side of the roadway near Butter Church Drive.

Police have not yet released the victim's name.

The driver of the vehicle allegedly ran over the victim when he attempted to continue driving after the accident.

Police located the driver and another passenger several hours later after they had fled the scene.

Ramirez was located when he attempted to report that the vehicle had been stolen. Detectives charged him with felony hit and run, no operator's license and filing a false police report.

The second passenger —  Wilson Escobar, a Herndon resident of unknown age — was found in Loudoun County after he approached an officer and reported he had been involved in a car accident. Wilson was taken to Fairfax Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Fairfax County's crash reconstruction detectives are continuing to investigate the accident. Additional charges may be pending.

Are you implying that the majority of Herndon residents are not "law abiding citizens"? What does SMH mean, BTW? And, please, explain what you mean by "decency died years ago".
Ruth Tatlock February 24, 2013 at 03:07 AM
Michael Rekas A human lost his life. No matter who he was, he was one of us, a human being with survivors who loved him and who are griveing right now. Decency died, you say. Well, with your comment you proved it.
keith mahone February 24, 2013 at 04:57 AM
Illegal aliens.
Bob Bruhns February 24, 2013 at 08:04 AM
I agree that it's sad that such a thing happened, Ruth. Anyway, SMH means "Shakes My Head"
Ruth Tatlock February 24, 2013 at 01:35 PM
keith mahone, Illegal aliens are human beings!
Mike Berkemeier February 24, 2013 at 02:55 PM
Actually, it means "shaking my head" but, close enough Bob, lol! I agree with Mike R. 110%...law-abiding citizens ARE more rare these days and, while decency may not be dead technically, you wouldn't know it sometimes in certain parts of Herndon. My question to Ruth is; How in the world do you find Mike R.'s comment to be indecent?
Mike Berkemeier February 24, 2013 at 02:59 PM
Ruth, if you want to crusade for illegal alien's rights, I'm sure there's a place where that would be welcomed...like, perhaps, Mexico?
Don Joy February 24, 2013 at 06:28 PM
More disastrous results of liberal policies.
anonymous February 25, 2013 at 01:09 AM
this country was founded by inmigrants you pity ignorant. the real american people is living in reservations, shame on you!.
Ann H Csonka February 25, 2013 at 05:46 AM
Douglas is correct...simple right and wrong. But people do panic and apparently the driver had good reasons to panic under the circumstances. Mike and Michael -- where are you guys running that you see such an absence of law-abiding citizens/residents in Herndon? ...and "decency died years ago"? Again, are you seeing "illegals" everywhere because that is what you expect or assume or use as some sort of shield? If you do not actually know people, why are you assuming? How do you feel when someone makes assumptions about you based on -- whatever? Also FYI (just one small example) as of 2009 in the Headstart program, over 140 languages were spoken by Head Start children and their families, and the number of cultures represented is even greater. It’s about the same now. Yes, a large majority are Spanish-speakers, but there are also speakers of East Asian, Middle Eastern, indigenous Central and South American, and other languages. Your ancestors probably arrived here among the waves of German, Italian, Irish, Scandinavian and other European immigrants…not to mention African and Asian …and each culture has been “picked on” by those from other origins who may have immigrated to America earlier. Canadians tend to not be as “foreign” to native-born Americans. However, even Puerto Ricans who move to the mainland U.S. are sometimes taunted as “foreigners” by some, though they have been American citizens since the passage of the Jones Act in 1917.
Ann H Csonka February 25, 2013 at 06:10 AM
REGARDING DECENCY ... well, obviously Ramirez--the individual--was not behaving decently by the offenses cited: hit-and-run, NOL, false report. Where’s all the rest of the “indecency”? Decency occurs in all shapes and sizes, all educational and occupational groups, all colors and ethnic varieties. Herndon is part of a major metro area with many immigrants–most of whom are here legally, not illegally. A large majority of immigrants in this region are citizens or legal non-citizens, and incidentally, they pay taxes at nearly the same rate as native households. We know many people from all over the world…who are as American as you are. Or do only European ancestors count to you? Michael and Mike – you both sang “It’s A Small World” when you were kids on the street where we live. I know...you grew up. Sadly, too many in the world today reject any spirit of international unity and defile the ideal of global peace that was the theme of that happy song. Too bad. We need positive ideals. We need to share at the human level. And we do all share one planet.

I am going to post a cartoon you will like!
RJP February 25, 2013 at 10:50 PM
Technically, the "real american people" you refer to are also immigrants. The only thing native to America are the mosquitoes.
Ruth Tatlock February 25, 2013 at 11:49 PM
Mike's comment is indecent, because he is using the death of a human being to show his own dislike (hatred) of immigrants. A human life is a human life. When a human dies, there are people who grieve. Please, show a little respect for them!
Ruth Tatlock February 25, 2013 at 11:52 PM
From what I hear, Mexico is not very friendly to illegal aliens.
Ruth Tatlock February 25, 2013 at 11:53 PM
Just wondered when Don Joy was going to show up.
Ruth Tatlock February 25, 2013 at 11:54 PM
Thanks, Ann! You have said what I feel, much better than I would have been able to.
Michael February 26, 2013 at 01:13 AM
When I was rear-ended (HARD) in a hit-and-run in Herndon a few years ago, the driver was a white US Citizen.....they caught him from his plate number. The driver may or may not be illegal. He may or may not just have been scared. You don't have enough information to make that judgment yet.
Don Joy February 27, 2013 at 02:41 PM
No tribe of people just sprouted up out of the ground or dropped out of the sky onto this continent, all peoples have fought over land and won territory through conquest throughout the eons. Whites have just as much claim to "ownership" of North America as any other group does--in fact, according to the scientifically-supported Solutrean Hypothesis, whites populated this continent before the so-called "native Americans" killed them off, etc: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solutrean_hypothesis
Camille funk February 27, 2013 at 06:21 PM
The driver was an illegal immigrant with no license. This is not the first time this has happened in Herndon. Last year a nun was killed by vehicle manslaughter by another illegal immigrant. This seems to be a reoccurring problem. As someone who has lived ALL OVER the world, the US is one of the only countries with such a feeble immigration policy. In Taiwan, the illegals Filipino. The police stand outside of Sunday mass a deport them as the come out. I'm American but was born in Singapore, they didn't allow me to have citizenship. Why is it that the rules don't apply to this country. Listen, I'm all for immigrants in the US, this is what this country is founded on. But I also believe in the law and the the right way to do things. Obviously something needs to be changed.
DGeorge February 27, 2013 at 06:33 PM
Why do libs leave the "illegal" from illegal immigrants? They instead charge you with being anti immigrant. What kind of fuzzy thinking is that? I am pro immigrant but anti illegal immigrant.
Ruth Tatlock February 27, 2013 at 08:05 PM
I am anti people who seem to think that the life of an illegal immigrant is worth nothing!!!!
DGeorge February 27, 2013 at 08:35 PM
Other than you Ruth, who has said that?
William Campenni February 27, 2013 at 09:53 PM
MS 13 gang members
Mike M February 27, 2013 at 10:06 PM
Let's just hope we can hold on to it! Not looking good and there are many eager, though unwitting traitors among us!
Mike M February 27, 2013 at 10:06 PM
Billy C! Stop it! You're killing me!
Michael Rekas April 04, 2013 at 05:15 AM
Ruth, I didn't say anything about immigrants. You said that. I speak of people as people, and don't split them up into a bunch of different categories.
Michael Rekas April 04, 2013 at 05:30 AM
Ann, as far as law abiding citizens, simply take a drive at any time during the day in Herndon. You get people speeding, tail gating, no turn signals, honking, blowing lights and stop signs, parking space puller throughers, and otherwise just rude asses. I cannot get across town going 5 over the speed limit without something to shake my head at. I mean 45 down Van Buren or Spring Street? Really? I suspect you and I are in agreement with more than has been surmised by the comments in this article. I never said anything about immigrants, only that law-abiding citizens are becoming more and more rare in these here parts.
Sandra M Teneh April 06, 2013 at 01:51 AM
Im sick of people like you referring to hispanics as a criminals. We are also decent people that works hard and pay taxes as well. Mke sure to learn your history first, Im pretty sure you are coming from immigrants ancestors. Lol
Sandra M Teneh May 11, 2013 at 10:28 PM
I swear for God I'm sick and tired of people discriminating my hispanic race. We are hard workers, we pay taxes and we are human beings therefore we deserve respect regardless of people's immigration status. Y'all don't have any idea about what people goes through so they can come to this country looking for a better future if they make it of course, since thousands of human beings die like animals on their way here.
