Herndon Man Dies in Dranesville Road Accident

Driver charged with felony hit and run, no operator's license and filing a false police report.

A Herndon man, who has not yet been identified, is dead after a single-vehicle accident that occurred at about 3 a.m. Saturday morning on Dranesville Road. 

Fairfax County police have arrested the driver of that vehicle, Elixavier Ramirez, 23, of Herndon, in connection with the accident. 

The victim, a man in his early 30s, was a passenger in a 1997 BMW. He was ejected from the vehicle after the driver allegedly lost control and ran off the right side of the roadway near Butter Church Drive.

Police have not yet released the victim's name.

The driver of the vehicle allegedly ran over the victim when he attempted to continue driving after the accident.

Police located the driver and another passenger several hours later after they had fled the scene. 

Ramirez was located when he attempted to report that the vehicle had been stolen. Detectives charged him with felony hit and run, no operator's license and filing a false police report. 

The second passenger —  Wilson Escobar, a Herndon resident of unknown age — was found in Loudoun County after he approached an officer and reported he had been involved in a car accident. Wilson was taken to Fairfax Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. 

Fairfax County's crash reconstruction detectives are continuing to investigate the accident. Additional charges may be pending.
