Fatal Car Accident at Dranesville and Park

Chantilly man and Annandale man die in Herndon accident

Herndon Police are investigating a car accident at the intersection of Dranesville Road and Park Avenue that turned fatal in the early hours of Saturday morning. 

The accident happened at about 2:10 a.m. on Nov. 12. Will Alberto Machado Avelar, 26, of Annandale, was traveling south on Dranesville Road and as he entered onto Park Avenue he lost control of his 2001 Nissan. The car left the road and struck a tree. 

Avelar was pronounced dead at the scene and passenger Oscar Rodriguez Costanza, 36, of Chantilly, was flown to Fairfax Hospital where he died from his injuries from the crash.

Police say speed appears to be a factor in the accident, but it is unknown at this time if alcohol was a factor. Anyone with information about the accident is asked to contact the Herndon Police Department at 703-435-6846 or Sgt. Ahmad at 703-435-6873.
