DWI Checkpoint in Herndon: Plan Ahead to Stay Safe, Avoid the Slammer

Herndon Police warning drivers to prepare for an upcoming DWI checkpoint.

The Herndon Police Department will conduct a DWI/Driver’s License Checkpoint on June 27, 2014 from 8:00 p.m. until 3:00 a.m. June 28, 2014 to deter and apprehend intoxicated drivers.

Motorist stopped for suspicion of driving while intoxicated will be checked to assure that their ability to drive has not been impaired by drugs or alcohol. In addition to the checking the sobriety of each driver, their operator’s license will be checked as well to ensure compliance with the law.

The Herndon Police Department is committed to ensuring the safety of its citizens and its roadways. The Department continues its ongoing efforts to reduce the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol related collisions.

DUI checkpoints are conducted to identify offenders and get them off the street, as well as educate the public on the dangers of impaired driving. Members of the public are encouraged to help keep roadways safe by calling the Herndon Police Department at 703-435-6846 if they see a suspected impaired driver.

Consuming an excessive amount of alcohol can lead a person to perceive they are still in control of their motor skills and capable of operating a motor vehicle safely.
